Hey people!.. next stop in this adventure is Arequipa!

 

It is the second biggest city in Peru with 861,145 inhabitants. You can see in the map that is situated in the south of Peru and it's very close to Chile and Bolivia.

 

It's known as the white city as most of the buildings are made with the local stone, that is a white volcanic one, as it is next to 3 volcanos: Mist, Pikchu Pikchu and Chachani. (you will see them below in the background of many photos)

 

The day I arrived here I was picked up by Sr. Jose from the CEICA Peru Spanish Language School where I'll be staying all the month while I volunteer in the Children's Shelter. 

 

At CEICA, Sofia, the owner, was waiting for me to show me the flat where I will be staying, I was lucky! the flat has 3 rooms, 2 of them have 4 beds inside, but I got the 3rd room that has just 1 bed! probably because I am the only guy in the flat! hehehe. This School also organise the volunteering, they are called Traveller Not Tourist https://www.facebook.com/travellernottourist

 

The flat is great and is just above the school, with a garden at the back where they have Spanish Lessons in the mornings, great place for a lesson, as it's always sunny!

 

First day I met Laura and Mervis, both girls from England, so I wont forget my English! hahaha. The other girls in the flat will come later on. Marvis volunteer in a School teaching English to the children, and Laura and I volunteer at a Children's Shelter (called Casa Hogar Luz Alba https://www.facebook.com/CasaHogarLuzAlba).

 

After I arrived to Arequipa we went to visit the Children's Shelter with Karen (also from CEICA)  and meet the other full time volunteers (called Tias) and the children, they are so cute! I'll upload some photos soon, ok? they are about 17 and they are aged between 1 and 10 years old. In the next post I'll let you know what exactly I do at the shelter, ok?

 

Then we had some time to visit the city center, here are some photos of the city, and as I said the next post will be talking about the volunteering at the Shelter, come back soon!

Hola gente! por fin la siguiente parada en esta aventura, Arequipa!!!

 

Es la segunda ciudad mas grande de Peru, con 861,145 habitants. Podeis ver en el mapa que está situada en el sur del país, muy cerca de la frontera con Chile y Bolivia.

 

Se la conoce como la Ciudad Blanca, principalmente por que sus edificios se han construido con la roca local, la de los volcanes, pues la ciudad está justo al lado de 3 volcanes: Misti, Pikchu Pikchu y Chachani (los vereis mas abajo en casi todas las fotos de fondo)

 

Según llegue a Arequipa fui recibido por el Sr. Jose, que trabaja para CEICA Peru Escuela de Español, en donde viviré todo el mes mientras esté haciendo el voluntariado en la Casa Hogar.

 

Una vez que llegué a CEICA, Sofia, la dueña de la escuela me enseñó el piso donde viviré con las otras chicas voluntarias, tuve mucha suerte pues el piso tiene 3 habitaciones, dos de ellas con 4 camas cada una (2 literas) y la mia que es una cama doble para mi solito, creo que tal vez sea por que soy el único chico en el piso, jejeje. Esta escuela también se encarga de organizar el voluntariado y se llama Traveller Not Tourist https://www.facebook.com/travellernottourist

 

El piso está estupendo, con un jardincito detrás de la casa donde les dan las clases de español, pues aquí siempre hace sol! jejeje, un lugar estupendo para tomar clases!

 

El primer dia conocí a Laura y Mervis, ambas inglesas, así no se me olvidará el ingles, jejeje. Las otras chicas del piso llegarán otro dia mas tarde. Marvis hace el voluntariado en un colegio normal apoyando en las clases de ingles y Laura hace el voluntariado conmigo en la Casa Hogar Luz Alba https://www.facebook.com/CasaHogarLuzAlba).

 

Tras llegar a Arequipa fuimos a conocer la Casa Hogar con Karen (que también trabaja para CEICA) y conocimos a las voluntarias que están alli a tiempo completo (las llaman Tias) y a los niños, son super ricos! ya subire algunas fotos de ellos pronto ok? tienen entre 1 y 10 años y son en total unos 17 niños. En la siguiente publicación os contare con detalle que es lo que hago como voluntario en la Casa Hogar.

 

Despues tuvimos tiempo de pasear por el centro, aqui abajo teneis algunas fotos de la ciudad, y ya sabeis, en la próxima publicación os contaré más sobre el voluntariado en la Casa Hogar.
